Vickery lands new role

Former Naracoorte Lucindale Mayor Erika Vickery has been appointed by the State Government as an administrator of the affairs of Coober Pedy District Council.

Her appointment along with two others began earlier this month and continues until Coober Pedy District Council ceases to be a defaulting council.

It has been suspended as an elected body since January 2019 due to serious governance and debt issues.

It still faces debts of around $10m to various creditors including the Local Government Financing Authority and an energy company.

Ms Vickery is a former president of the Local Government Association of South Australia and the Limestone Coast LGA.

She was an elected member of her local council for 22 years between 2000 and 2022 including the last 12 as its mayor.

Lucindale farmer Patrick Ross successfully challenged Ms Vickery for the mayoralty of Naracoorte Lucindale in November.
