The University of South Australia Online has expanded its course offerings and launched an online Bachelor of Journalism.
The degree will be offered nationally via 100% online delivery and UniSA regional manager Ian McKay said this meant students could study journalism online using the UniSA Mount Gambier Campus as their study base.
“It is exciting news that UniSA Online is now offering a 100% online Bachelor of Journalism that will allow students in the Limestone Coast and South West Victoria to study journalism without having to relocate away from their home,” Mr McKay said.
“UniSA Online allows students complete flexibility to study anywhere, any time, and on any device.
“Being a UniSA student, local students who choose to study a Bachelor of Journalism with UniSA Online have full access to the facilities and support at our Mount Gambier Campus.”
UniSA Online stated the exciting new program combines essential journalistic knowledge and skills with digital proficiency and an entrepreneurial mindset.
The degree will teach students the role news plays in peoples’ lives, exploring contemporary issues such as the impact of media ownership, technological disruption, and reporting in the age of disinformation.
Students will develop an understanding of entrepreneurial journalism, building their skills to operate as an independent or freelance journalist and will prepare students to take on the multi-platform delivery of news.
Studying online allows students to engage with course materials at their leisure and manage their study schedule each week, with 10 to 15 hours of study per week recommended for each course.
All assessments, including exams if required, are entirely online, therefore students will not need to travel to submit assignments or find an exam venue.
