Virgo fills council vacancy

The Mount Gambier City Council vacancy created by the resignation of new Liberal MLC Ben Hood has been filled.

Jason Virgo (pictured), who was previously unsuccessful in last year’s Local Government Elections, has been elevated to the position.

First preference votes were distributed to the five eligible candidates, and ballot papers with no preference expressed for an eligible candidate were recorded as exhausted.

After the distribution of preferences Mr Virgo obtained 3051 votes and was provisionally declared elected under quota last week.
