Speed limits slashed

The 80kph speed limit on two sections of road on the outskirts of Mount Gambier on Lake Terrace East and O’Leary Road has been lowered to 50kph.

The 50kph speed limit has been extended 500 metres on Lake Terrace East towards Lewis Avenue.

The 50kph speed limit has also been extended by 450 metres on O’Leary Road to include Springview Drive.

Mount Gambier City Council City Infrastructure general manager Barbara Cernovskis said council had been in correspondence with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport over the past couple of years regarding the need to adjust the speed limit in these areas due to the increase in residential traffic following the opening of the ReUse Market on Eucalypt Drive and the Springview residential land division in the vicinity of O’Leary Road.

“DIT advised Council on January 31, 2024 the proposed changes were approved by the Manager Traffic Services, Network Management Services DIT, for and on behalf of the Commissioner of Highways on January 24, 2024,” she said.

“The speed limit reductions will help to ensure road safety in these areas.”
