Millicent v International
International will travel to Millicent in hopes of continuing its winning form as Round 3 of the Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League season kicks off this weekend.
The 2022 minor premier is yet to drop any points this season and will look to continue the trend when it takes on Millicent United in Millicent.
The contest is set to be an enthralling clash, as it’s a battle between first and second as both sides look to assert an early dominance across the league.
Millicent has played well early and International will be a great test for the side to prove that it can pose a real threat in 2023.
Millicent was the first team eliminated in finals last season and will try to prove there has been good improvement in the squad over the off season in hope to go deeper in finals in 2023.
International has played out convincing wins so far this eason and will believe it can get the job done against Millicent.
From the first two games, Millicent has conceded the least goals with two, while International has kicked the most with nine.
The strongest defensive team in the league against the strongest attacking side is sure to offer a great battle that will be enthralling to watch play out.
Apollo v Gambier Centrals
Apollo will host a winless Centrals side trying to turn its season around beginning with last season’s runner up.
Last season was a tough one for the Centrals squad, as it failed to make finals finishing fifth, but if they want to turn that around and play finals in 2023 then a win against a side like Apollo will go a long way.
They are coming off some bad defeats against International and Millicent, but a positive from the two games is they managed to net a goal in both, two in the case of the International game.
The side clearly has the ability going forward to present a danger to the opposition goals, however if they are to play finals and be a serious threat they will need adjustments in defence having conceded the second most goals in the opening two rounds.
If Apollo is able to tighten up its defence and not allow the opposition as many opportunities to shoot, they could become a very hard side to beat.
Apollo will believe it has the attacking power to go past Gambier Centrals and will be hard to stop.
They have kicked the second most goals this season and have conceded the second least.
They will know they have the ability to keep Centrals out of the game and claim the three points for a second win for the season.
Blue Lake v Naracoorte
Blue Lake will meet a struggling Naracoorte United side in round three and will hope to secure its second win of the season.
After a round one win against Apollo in a grand final rematch, the reigning premiers hit a hurdle with a disappointing 4-1 loss to International in round two.
As the Rangers prepare to go up against a Naracoorte team that is yet to win in 2023, the side will look to find its winning form again ahead of a Round 4 clash against a flying Millicent side.
Naracoorte has had a poor start to the season, suffering two big defeats and its goal difference is the worst in the league, having conceded 11 goals in two games.
Players will have been working hard on their defence for the side to be in with a chance of challenging Blue Lake.
Naracoorte will be slightly more confident with the fact Blue Lake has kicked the least goals in the league to date, with only two goals from two games.
Blue Lake has had a challenging fixture though, going up against Apollo and International and could potentially threaten a lot more against a side like Naracoorte.
With two sides looking to get their season going, it will be an exciting battle with the potential for a lot of goals.
