Inter v Apollo
International’s unbeaten run has been brought to an end in the Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League women’s competition.
Apollo became the first team to go up against International and claim any points for the 2023 season and managed to claim all three to sit behind International in second on the table.
It was a fierce battle early with lots of opportunities for both sides, with strong counter attacking football on display.
However both sides were unable to take any of their chances which resulted in a scoreless game at half time.
Both sides continued to attack in the second half but their defences held strong.
In the 70th minute disaster struck for International with an Amy Nitsche own goal giving Apollo the lead late in the match.
The black and blues reset and hoped to find an opportunity for an equaliser but were unable to convert any chances in the final 10 minutes.
The final whistle blew with Apollo claiming the win thanks to the own goal, taking the three points by downing the only side yet to have tasted defeat this season.
It will be a disappointing loss for International having played well and not gotten the result.
The side has not struggled to find the back of the net in previous weeks but this time Apollo’s defence proved too strong.
Apollo’s defence has proven to be first class this season having conceded the least amount of goals in the league, and the win will be a big confidence booster for the rest of the season.
For International they will hope to bounce back next week when they take on a winless Naracoorte United.
Millicent v Blue Lake
Millicent hosted the reigning premiers who had been struggling for consistency so far in the new season.
Millicent has continued to impress this year and continued its Impressive season with a 5-1 domination of Blue Lake.
Blue Lake came out firing first with Jasmine White kicking the opening goal in the 28th minute to give her side the lead.
The Rangers’ lead did not last more than 10 minutes with an equaliser coming from the home team in the 36th minute.
Leonie McCallum found the back of the net for Millicent and soon after Lana Shepherd gave her side the lead.
Shepherd’s 38th minute goal ensured Millicent went into half time 2-1 up.
Millicent controlled the rest of the game, with Shepherd continuing her incredible goal scoring form with a 50th minute strike to give her side the 3-1 lead.
Shepherd and McCallum were joined on the scoresheet by Kelsie Wilkinson in the 64th minute.
Blue Lake was 4-1 down after scoring the opening goal and did not have any answers for Millicent’s relentless attack.
In the 67th minute Shepherd wrapped up her hat trick and the game with a strike to put her team up 5-1.
The scoreline was too much for Blue Lake who suffered the second defeat of the season and will hope for a better result next week up against a winless Centrals.
Millicent continues to travel well after cementing itself as a serious contender.
Naracoorte v Centrals
Naracoorte hosted fellow winless side Centrals in round four as both teams hoped to get their season started.
At the end of the 90 minutes the teams could not be separated and both claimed their first point of the season.
Centrals had hope with an early opener as in the sixth minute a Rose Irakoze strike found the back of the net to put her side 0-1 up early.
The two sides battled it out for the next goal with both defences putting in quality efforts, but at half time Centrals held a one goal advantage.
In the second half Naracoorte shifted the momentum when Masoma Panahi netted the equaliser in the 47th minute.
Naracoorte continued that momentum to find the lead in the 63rd minute going 2-1 in search of its first win.
Centrals refused to roll over with Janaye Donaldson scoring just three minutes later, taking the final result to 2-2 with neither side able to find the winner in the last 15 minutes.
They both continue to sit bottom of the ladder separated only by goal difference.
