There are only a few days to go before hundreds of junior footballers and netballers converge on Millicent’s McLaughlin Park on Sunday, June 4.
The youngsters will keep alive the annual Gala Day tradition which dates
back more than 50 years to the early 1970s
at Tantanoola.
Re-named the Millicent District Gala Day in 2013, the event organisers are members of the McLaughlin Park Sports Incorporated (MPSI).
The event changed its name and location a decade ago as there was insufficient manpower among the Tantanoola Primary School community to stage the event at the Tantanoola Oval.
The 2023 Millicent District Gala Day will follow the successful format of previous years with an early morning start.
Organisers say the Gala Day’s ongoing success depends on the involvement of many people including schools, coaches, umpires, parents and the young players.
MPSI draws its members from the football, netball, tennis, cricket, soccer and basketball clubs and associations which use McLaughlin Park.
