More drivers ordered off road as court disqualifies licences

Anumber of defendants faced the Mount Gambier Magistrates court charged with driving offences in front of Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos last week.


A 22-year-old Limestone Coast man was convicted of drink driving after being pulled over by police for a driver screening test on Penola Road on April 7, 2024 at 2.20am and recording a BAC of 0.083.


He received a six month licence disqualification backdated to the date of the offence and a $900 fine.


A Mount Gambier man was convicted of drink driving after being stopped over by police on Wehl Street South on March 30, 2024, at 9.45pm and recording a BAC of 0.090.


The man received a six month licence disqualification backdated to the date of the offence and a $900 fine.


A South East woman was convicted of driving whilst disqualified after being pulled over in a black Holden station wagon by police on Telford Street at 11.30am on March 20, 2024.


Police administered a driving screening test and conducted licence checks that revealed the woman was suspended from March 12 to September 11, 2024 by virtue of a breach of a provisional licence.


The woman received a $200 six month good behaviour bond and previously received a good behaviour bond without conviction for the same offence on November 29, 2022.


A 36-year-old South East man was convicted of drink driving and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle after being stopped by police on McArthur Street on Friday April 12, 2024, at 4pm and recording a BAC of 0.099.


The court heard the vehicle had been unregistered since May 2022 and the man received a six month licence disqualification backdated to the date of the offence and issued fines totalling $1500.


A South East mother of four was convicted of drug driving after being pulled over by police for a driver screening test at Percy Street on March 10, 2024, and returning a positive result for methamphetamine.


The woman received a six month licence disqualification backdated to the date of the offence and a $900 fine.


A 20-year-old Mount Gambier man was charged with driving whilst disqualified after being stopped by police on Rook Road for a driver screening test at 9.30pm on January 17, 2024.


The man was handed a $200 six month good behaviour bond without conviction.
