A$4m solar farm and battery storage system has been earmarked for grazing land at Coonawarra.
The application was lodged on September 24 with Plan SA by Frank Brennan Consultancy Services.
The Davis Road development is listed as a “renewable energy facility” according to the Plan SA register.
Mr Brennan has told The SE Voice the development was related to solar energy but declined to state the identity of the proponents.
He said his company is also seeking planning permission for six other solar farms.
Planning permission was given a few years ago for the region’s first solar energy farm.
It is set to be erected at a cost of $3m on open farmland near Millicent.
If all goes to plan, 4.5mw of energy generated by the sun via panels would be fed into the national grid via the adjoining Snuggery sub-station.
Public comment was invited on Adelaide-based Nowa Energeia’s application to develop a 4.95mw solar farm and the requisite building and planning approvals were secured.
The land is owned by locals Robert and Kaye White and they live on the property.
Details of the solar farm were found in a 27-page report which was prepared by consultant planner Catherine Lyon from Frank Brennan Consulting Services.
The proposed solar energy farm is located near the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill, Roundwood Solutions timber treatment plant, the former Cellulose Mill industrial estate and Blue Lake Dairy Group powdered milk processing facility.
However, construction of the solar farm at Snuggery has yet to commence.
Frank Brennan Consulting Services was also the consultant planner for the $38.5m storage battery for the Lake Bonney windfarms which became operational in 2019.
