School steers to success

Alocal school has steered to success with their cattle entries at the recent Royal Melbourne Show in their first time back showing livestock at a royal show for half a decade.

The Allendale East Area School led steer team returned a fantastic result at the Royal Melbourne Show with a total of 10 ribbons secured.

The team exhibited two steers at the show including their Simmental steer ‘Otto’ donated by Brad and Penny Creek of Six Creeks Simmentals which won Champion Domestic Steer on hoof and went on to be awarded the prestigious Champion School Steer on Hoof.

The school’s Limousin steer ‘OJ’ donated by Michael and Tahnee Black of Caladenia Limousins won first in his class of Export Steers on Hoof before going on to secure second place overall in the Export Steers Over 561kg on Hook.

While at the Melbourne Show the Allendale East Area School handlers were rewarded with Sienna Black, Asha Atchison, Oliver Bramley and Tyler McKenna all securing ribbons in their retrospective handlers’ classes.

The school’s tremendous Melbourne Show results also secured them second overall in the Most Successful School against larger school teams from across Victoria and New South Wales.
