Allendale East Area School student Max Pitson is currently the fastest 10-year-old boy in the state for the 100m sprint with a time of 13.94 seconds.


Max recently competed for South Australia in his age group at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championship in Launceston, Tasmania.


He also ran the second leg of the 10-year-old boys’ 100m relay team which finished a respectable fourth in the championship final with a time of 57.32 seconds.


New South Wales won the event with a time of 53.73 seconds, the runner up was Victoria with 54.81 seconds and third place went to Queensland (54.82 seconds).


Prior to the event, the young gun trained multiple times a week with athletic coach Sally Taylor at Mount Gambier High School.


“She helped me a lot with my technique including my starts and finishes,” Max said.


Max’s parents travelled to Tasmania to watch him compete in the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championship.


“It feels good to know that my parents support me and I loved having them there,” Max said.


“I am extremely proud of him and to get a personal best is more than what he expected from himself,” Max’s mother Lynette Pitson said.


“We were just proud that he made it, it’s a huge achievement to get a personal best; it’s amazing.


“He loves it so I am sure that he is going to improve over the years to come.”


Max recently joined the Mount Gambier District Little Athletics Centre and following his inaugural training, competed in the Little Athletics Lower South East Championships where he won the Under 11 Age Group Championship.


He won the 100m, 200m, high jump and long jump and came second in the 80m hurdles while also setting a new personal best of 1.28m for high jump.
