Cricketers begin run chase

South Gambier v North Sportsmans

In day two of the clash between South and North, the Tigers will be looking to chase down South’s run total of 164.

As this is a reasonable total to chase I do not think there will be too much pressure on the Tigers to cut into the lead in a hurry as they have shown so far this season they have got some players who can make some big runs.

This season the Dees have been solid at defending their run total and this will be their first big test in a two day game.

Some of South’s solid bowlers this season have been Jakob Opie and Robbie Drenthen.

Both have been reliable wicket takers with both taking two last game and combining for four in round one.

They will need to step up and take out some of North’s big hitters if the Dees want to come away with the victory in this match.

East Gambier v Mil Lel

East Gambier has a tough task ahead of them this Saturday as they head to the crease to chase Mil Lel’s big run total of 205.

Mil Lel should be feeling pretty confident heading into day two after a big first day.

With a big job in front of them I believe the Doggies will give it a fair crack as they have already put up some big scores in earlier one day games.

East also have the players to get the job done as Ben Hentschke is coming off a huge game against South where he made 95 runs off 106 balls.

They also have players of the calibre of Emerson Marks and Dion Stratford who have had solid games with the bat this season.

With a big run total in hand Mil Lel will look to bowl and field like they did last round against Penola.

Mil Lel played extremely well in that innings, holding Penola to only 78 runs.

Some big standouts with the ball in that game were Harry Hicks and Jack Miller.

Hicks bowled seven overs for only 16 runs and took three wickets while Miller bowled eight for 12 runs while also taking three wickets.

Overall day two of this match should be an interesting and competitive battle as both of these teams match up well.

Penola v West Gambier

Penola will pick up where they left off this Saturday as they continue to chase down West Gambier’s total of 220.

Last week the Roos were all out after 52 overs, with Penola coming in to end the day and finishing 2/33.

Penola’s Lewis March and Eli Hunter will open proceedings and both appear to be building a solid innings but have yet to put a real dent into West’s total as March sits on 16 runs and Hunter on one.

Early on Trent Badman is looking very good with the ball, bowling four overs and only allowing two runs while recording three maidens and a wicket.

Justin de Jong has been another standout for the Roos this season with the ball, already taking seven wickets so far this season.

The Roos will need Badman to keep his form going from day one into Saturday if they want to come away with a win.
