Allen retains Super 2 lead

Mount Gambier racing sensation Kai Allen suited up for double duties at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 where he drove in both the Dunlop Super2 Series and the Repco Supercars.

While Allen still leads the Dunlop Super2 Series championship with 1032 points, runner up Zach Bates inched closer to the top spot after the weekend with 906 points.

The Mount Gambier racer started the weekend strong with first place finishes in Practice 1 and 2, clocking lap times of 1:09.

Allen qualified seventh for Race 1 Qualifying but managed to move up a few spots to finish fourth in Race 1.

The young gun qualified seventh again in Race 2 Qualifying which he converted into a fifth place finish in Race 2.

Allen was the co-driver for Will Davidson for Dick Johnson Racing representing Shell V-Power Racing in which the pair ended Practice 2 in 25th position, Practice 3 in 22nd, 4th in Practice 4 and 12th in the warm-up.

Allen and Davidson had a tricky Race 19, placing in 24th position after Allen sustained front end damage to the #17 DJR car by crashing into Dylan O’Keeffe in the Bendix Racing car in the third caution of the race.

Allen will suit up for double duties again for the Bathurst 1000 on October 10-13 on the infamous Mount Panorama circuit.
