Mount Gambier’s two young Super2 drivers Jobe Stewart and Kai Allen are in Queensland this weekend to compete in the Dunlop Series in Townsville.
Eggleston Motorsport’s Allen currently holds the number one position on 540 points, having secured three wins for the season.
Erebus Academy’s Stewart sits sixth in the Dunlop Super2 standings with 357 points heading into the third round of the season.
Allen won the first three races of the season, with commentators predicting the young gun looks set to continue his scintillating form.
Organisers have announced the Dunlop Series will use a revised qualifying format when the action resumes in Townsville this weekend.
The first two rounds in Bathurst and Perth used a split qualifying format, with Group 1 and Group 2 split into upper and lower 50% groups following practice.
The grid was then set by the combined results of the two groups.
Previously, qualifying sessions were run as two separate groups for Super2 and Super3 drivers.
In Townsville, all drivers will compete for Boost Mobile Pole in single 20-minute sessions, which will set the grid for the two 40-minute races.
The change ensures drivers will not be at risk of being placed in Group 1 in qualifying should they be off the pace in Friday practice.
The single session also removes possible track evolution advantages for either group, meaning all drivers have the same track conditions to fight for pole.
