Race rivals chase glory

Mount Gambier drivers dominated the opening round of the Dunlop Series Super2s at Bathurst.

The Blue Lake city’s Kai Allen and Jobe Stewart showcased their skills during racing at Mount Panorama on Saturday and Sunday.

The duel saw Allen as the reigning Super2 champion up against Stewart as last year’s reigning Super3 champion.

Allen won race one on Saturday, and on Sunday morning crossed the line only 0.08 seconds faster than Stewart in qualifying.

The duo started side by side on the front row of the grid in race two on Sunday afternoon.

Stewart got the jump on Allen early, snatching first place, before Allen regained the lead only a handful of laps later.

Allen took the win again in race two, with Stewart finishing second only 0.582 seconds behind.

It was Allen’s fifth straight podium finish, with commentators already speculating that he might be the first driver to win back to back Super2 Championships
