Apollo lands important three points

Apollo secured another big three points on Thursday night as they hosted Millicent United under the lights in a rescheduled Barry Maney Premier League game from round four.

Apollo came out strong in the opening minutes of the half and wasted no time in gaining the lead.

Rebekah Lamb got the night started with the opening goal for Apollo which was followed by another, with Rylee Kuchel finding the back of the net.

Millicent continued to struggle in the first half as Apollo made it difficult for them to create many attacking chances.

Apollo finished the half as they started it after Elisabeth Benny found the back of the net while Zoe Brooksby scored a penalty right before the half time whistle.

At the half time break Apollo held a firm four goal lead.

Millicent were much better defensively in the second half as they held off Apollo for most of the stanza.

However as solid as their defence was, Apollo’s attack was just too good and they finished the match strong with a flurry of goals.

Kuchel scored the first 71 minutes in which was followed by another goal from Brooksby only a minute later.

Not long after Toni Ingley-Smith found the back of the net to take Apollo’s total to seven in the latter stages of the match.

The night ended on a rough note for Millicent as Meredie Widdison registered another goal on the board for Apollo with the score coming from an own goal.

It was a solid all round performance from Apollo with five players scoring, including Rylee Kuchel and Zoe Brooksby both having two goal performances.

Apollo defeated Millicent 8-0.

Apollo coach Edward Mapore thought there were several top performers in the side on Thursday night.

“It was a brilliant performance from the ever-dangerous Zoe Brooksby, scoring two goals and providing two assists,” he said.

“And another great performance from Sarah England, controlling the defence and supplying great balls from the back.”

With win number seven in the books for Apollo, their undefeated season carries on as they continue to cement their position at the table of the ladder with 23 points.
