MOUNT GAMBIER CATTLE – OCTOBER 7

Numbers remained steady as agents yarded 621 head of live weight and open auction cattle.

These sold to a larger field of trade and processor buyers with an extra from interstate this week along with the usual feeder orders.

Quality was mixed across the pens as some good heavy cattle came forward while the yearling run was lacking the finish of the previous week with this category selling to easier rates while the remainder of the market sold to a dearer trend.

Vealer numbers remain small as steers ranged from 390c to 438c and heifers from 395c to 415c with a lift of 20c as both the trade and feeders operated here.

Yearling steers to the trade made from 366c to 414c with similar heifers returning from 365c to 400c/kg.

Feeder steers sold from 335c to 420c with the feeder heifers ranging from 285c to 406c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks jumped from 20c to 30c as they ranged from mainly 352c to 423c with feeder support to 405c/kg.

Grown heifers to the trade returned from 342c to 386c with feeder activity from 388c to 396c as manufacturing steers sold from 310c to 344c/kg.

Heavy cows ranged from 292c to 318c to rise 12c as a run of B muscled Simmental cross types returned from 319c to a high of 335c/kg.

Lighter cows ranged from 220c to 297c to the trade with feeder activity to 297c as heavy bulls made from 295c to 300c/kg.

NARACOORTE CATTLE – OCTOBER 6

Numbers fell away following the public holiday as agents yarded 644 head of live weight and open auction cattle as vendors were welcomed back into the sale yards.

These sold to another large field of trade and processor buyers along with feeder and increased restocker activity.

Quality was generally good across the offering as the market kicked in price with large lifts in price across the categories.

Vealer numbers were very small as these topped at 433c/ kg.

Yearling steers to the trade ranged from 376c to 434c with similar heifers returning from 368c to 439c as pricing lifted by 15c to 20c/kg.

Feeder steers made from 370c to 434c with the feeder heifers making from 305c to 411c/kg.

Restockers added to the market this week in increased numbers as they purchased steers from 439c to 452c and heifers from 371c to 424c/kg.

Grown cattle were smaller in number as the grown steers and bullocks ranged from 362c to 400c with a lift of 20c as feeder operated here from 380c to also 400c/kg.

Grown heifers to the trade ranged from 320c to 388c with feeder interest here to 392c/kg.

Heavy cows rose by 12c as they ranged from 290c to 320c with the lighter types making from 244c to 290c with some restocker interest to 248c/kg.

Heavy bulls ranged from 246c to 300c with the lighter types peaking at 314c/kg.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHEEP – OCTOBER 7

Numbers rose as agents yarded 4,248 lambs and 281 sheep to total 4,529 head overall.

These sold to a larger field of trade and processor buyers with a number of active restockers seeking lambs to grow on.

Quality was mixed as the market eased in price.

Light lambs to the trade made from $110 to $145 as the light weight trade 2 and 3 score selection sold from $162 to $173/head.

Restockers operated on light lambs from $87 to $128 and from $132 to $172/head for those with more conditioning.

Trade weight 3 score lambs sold from $167 to $200 to average around the 890c/kg cwt area with a reduction of $5 to $12/head.

Heavy lambs sold from $204 to $239 as the few extra heavy lambs peaked this week at $254/head.

Hoggets sold from $162 to $180 as light ewes made from $70 to $105/head.

Medium weighted ewes sold from $122 to $150 as the heavy pens made from $155 to $210 with rams making from $40 to $130/head.
