Art project to get under way

Painting of Millicent’s largest wall mural is set to begin on April 1 when the bland rear wall of Ignition Fitness is transformed.

Professional artists Mike Makaton and Conrad Bizjak have been hired by the owners of the gymnasium which runs between George and Davenport streets.

The lion’s share of the costs will be met by grants of $5000 each from Wattle Range Council and the Stand Like Stone Foundation.

The pair is also set to hold a public workshop during their time in Millicent.

Their work has adorned other Millicent CBD buildings in recent years.

The pair collaborated on the “birds mural” on the northern wall of the TDH Partners accountancy office while the “beehive mural” in George Street was a solo effort by Mike.

Assistance with the murals has been provided by the Imagine Millicent (IMAG) arts group.

IMAG has also made a substantial cash contribution to a new mural for the upgraded palliative care room at Millicent and District Hospital.

Millicent artist Peter Dunn is painting the mural on panels in his home studio and they will be placed in the palliative care room.
