Community organisations have joined forces to save threatened woodland species at Bool and Hacks Lagoon, south of Naracoorte.


Friends of Bool and Hacks Lagoon, Naracoorte District Men’s Shed and Birdlife Australia have shared expertise and resources as part of the Limestone Coast Landscape Board Grassroots Grant program to build and install 60 artificial hollows for threatened woodland bird species.


Bradley Clarke-Wood from Birdlife Australia emphasised the critical role of the funding.


“The funding has been crucial in helping us achieve our goals,” he said.


“The financial support provided by the Limestone Coast Landscape Board Grassroots Grant program has provided the opportunity for this initiative, allowing community organisations to address the urgent need for protective habitats for the threatened species.


“The Limestone Coast Grassroots Grants funding creates opportunities for local organisations to work together on environmental projects supporting our Limestone Coast landscape, providing fabulous outcomes for our local habitat and wildlife.”


Limestone Coast Landscape Board Habitat Conversation team leader Dr Robbie Andrew welcomed the community collaboration.


“Supporting this local project and seeing so many community organisations work collaboratively to craft the nest boxes has provided a successful outcome,” Dr Andrew said.


“The nest boxes are due to be installed in the trees around the Bool in 2024.”


Dr Andrew is excited to observe firsthand the positive impact these efforts will have on the local woodland bird populations.
