The Mount Gambier Little Athletics Centre enjoyed another successful night at the track in beautiful conditions.
The night started off with two special guests Olympian Izzi Batt-Doyle and professional Australian distance runner Riley Cocks taking the group for warm up before starting the events for the night.
Throughout the night the two long-distance runners assisted the athletes and even participated in some of the events with the younger children.
The athletes had an opportunity to ask questions throughout the night and had plenty of photographs taken with our athletes.
This is the second year that Riley and Izzi have made the time to come down and speak to our athletes and give them some tips.
The Little Athletics crew are grateful for the athletes’ time and look forward to doing it again next year.
The Under 9 girls events saw the group participate in the high jump, 400m, 70m and long jump, while Ellie Perry, Chloe Bickley and Zara Martin were in a tight finish in the long jump with Ellie taking the final position with a personal best jump of 2.77m.
The Under 10 boys enjoyed the night competing in the 70m, shot put, 1100m walk and 400m.
These boys went extremely close to taking a 70m centre record held since 1992 with a time of 10.20 seconds.
Finn McEachern and Thomas Izzard are both looking to hunt this record down in the coming meets.
Bradley Viitanen had a great throw in the shot put with a throw of 5.79m.
On Saturday afternoon athletes enjoyed participating in the Mount Gambier Gift.
Athletes were able to nominate themselves for the 120m sprint and 800m.
Kyla Gordon won the 120m and Finn McEachern had a fast finish in the 800m to cross the line in first place.
Sunday morning saw a venue change for some of our athletes with a group participating in the Blue Lake Fun Run with our centre president Adrian Lynch also getting involved.
Aysia Robinson, Emily Lynch, Eva Povey, Hunter Livingston, Kiersten Cole, Leslie Jagger and Josh Cameron completed the various distances with some great times.
Highlights of the morning included Les Jagger taking out the 6.8km and Josh Cameron finishing fourth in the 10.4km.
