Cricket festival a bucket of fun

Frew Park will host an exciting cricket event on Sunday, with the first game in the KFC Festival of Cricket.

The one-day match format will get under way a day after the conclusion of Round 5 of Barber Shield action.

Every local team will be represented, with North’s Nick Mclnerney leading the side.

The Mount Gambier side will come up against Hamilton for its first game.

The team includes both Mil Lel’s Barber Shield captain Jack Miller as well as their T20 captain William Rowland.

Penola’s Jack Mullan and Michael Waters have been selected, with the two having the roles of Barber Shield vice-captain and T20 captain respectively. Waters will look to continue his form after taking 4/15 in the T20 last Thursday.

The only South Gambier player chosen for the squad was T20 captain Robbie Drenthen.

East has the most representation in the squad with three players in vice-captain Emerson Marks, Barber Shield captain Alex Hentschke and Liam Turley who has been performing well with the ball so far this season.

West Gambier will have Justin DeJong and Jake Blackwell, who both impressed last Thursday in West’s dominant win over South.

Blackwell was exceptional with the bat scoring a half century and DeJong finished the 20 overs not out for 25 and then picked up two wickets.

North Gambier’s Isaac Mulraney will act as the 12th man for the team.

The first ball of the one-day game will be bowled at 11am, with the Mount Gambier senior team facing Hamilton.
