Young stars shine

Three local cricketers have competed for the under 15 Western Waves All Stars recently and managed to perform well on a big stage.


Locals Harry Hicks, Ryan Lucas and Naite Fox showcased their talents in the U15 Boys All Stars competition, playing for Western Waves.


In round 1 Western Waves went up against the Mallee Murray Suns, losing the toss and forced to bat first.


After losing early wickets two of the local boys Hicks and Lucas batted out the 20 overs both remaining not out.


Hicks top scored for the match with 38 not out off 37 balls, his knock included seven boundaries, while Lucas’s knock of 19 off 20 saw him hit four.


The Western Waves side finished with 90 runs to defend and just managed to scrape a win thanks to some good bowling from Hicks and Fox.


Fox finished with impressive figures of 2-5 from his two overs, bowling an economical and dangerous spell, while Hicks also managed to bowl economically while taking wickets, finishing with figures of 2-11 off four overs.


The final score was 9-84 after 20 overs with Western Waves claiming an impressive six run win with Hicks, Fox and Lucas all playing vital roles.


The second match was again played against the Mallee Murray Suns.


Western Waves were sent in to bowl first, Hicks and Lucas both got a bowl with Hicks finishing with figures of 0-13 off four overs and Lucas finished with 0-15 off one over.


The side was set a total of 110 to chase and it proved quite an exciting run chase, Lucas was impressive during the run chase, top scoring for the match with 40.


He was trapped LBW after 32 balls and had to make his way back to the pavilion.


Hicks only faced four balls scoring two not out as Western Waves finished 7-110 after 20 overs with the match resulting in a tie.


In both matches Hicks, Fox and Lucas proved stand outs in the Western Waves All Star side, providing crucial wickets and runs in the two matches showing the excellent talent the region can produce.
