Rendelsham turns pink

Pink will be the colour of play at the Rendelsham Cricket Ground on February 17 when Lucindale cricketers make their annual visit.

It has been designated Pink Stumps Day as part of the nationwide fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation.

Organiser Sara Gray said Rendelsham had arranged two Pink Stumps Days in recent years against Furner/Beachport but this club was now in recess.

Ms Gray said the players from both teams would pose for a photograph in front of the supersize pink stumps and bails at the north-eastern boundary of the Rendelsham Cricket Ground.

She said the format would follow past games with pink caps and tops, raffles, an auction and a VIP viewing area.

Ms Gray said the funds raised to date ran into many thousands of dollars.

“We will be getting out this Pinks Stumps Day because no one should go through breast cancer without the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse,” Ms Gray said.

“McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by breast cancer by providing invaluable physical, psychological, emotional support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.

“All funds raised go towards helping the McGrath Foundation reach their goal of 250 nurses by 2025, to work towards ensuring no one misses out on care.”

The host club will be hard to beat as it is the reigning premier in the Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association.

Among the Rendelsham players who will feature is veteran wicket-keeper/batsman Dwayne Gray and he is the husband of Sara.

The 53-year-old is searching for his 10th premiership.

“I reckon I have played more than 500 games,” he said.

“My first taste of senior cricket was as a 16-year-old with Millicent Footballers.

“I joined Rendelsham in 1988.”
