Bay netballers mark
350-game milestone

Apair of netballers at Port MacDonnell Netball Club have played 350 games for their club, with the milestone celebrated.

Narelle Lewis has had a stellar netball career on and off the netball court, with the Port MacDonnell Netball Club.

Starting juniors in 1996, she progressed to the 13s in 1998, where she won best and fairest in 1999 and a premiership in 2000 with the 15s.

Lewis started her senior debut in 2004, winning best and fairest in the A Reserves for two seasons.

Lewis also began coaching in 2004 with the Under 15s squad, before progressing onto the B Grade in 2010 and 2011, the Junior 2 in 2015 and the A Reserves in 2017, 2018,2019 and 2021.

After having a couple of seasons off due to the birth of her two daughters, she came back in 2010 as playing coach of the club’s B Grade team, where she won the premiership and was runner-up best and fairest.

She has had several more runner-up best and fairest nominations in that grade.

After having the 2013 season off for the birth of her son, she played B Grade and then the next season in A Reserve, where she was awarded best and fairest.

In 2015, Lewis was promoted to A Grade, and has been a consistent A/A Reserve player up until her 350 games with the club.

She has also coached the A Reserve several times, winning the 2019 Premiership.

In addition to her playing career, Lewis has had a role behind-the-scenes on the committee from 2012, and has gone from being a committee member to vice-president to president.

Lewis has been credited as always been an active supporter of the club, from committee commitments, umpiring, coaching, playing, working bees and any other job in between.

With the backing of family, Husband Dean, daughters Sophie (15s), Bailee (13s) and Brock (Under 12s football), the club would congratulated her on her 350 games.

Joining Lewis in marking 350 games for the Port MacDonnell Netball Club was Belinda O’Dine, who began playing for the club in 1995.

O’Dine started her competitive netball in 1998, and for the next five years played in grand finals, securing a premiership in the Under 15s in 2000.

She started her senior career in 2004 with the A Reserve, where she played her 350th game nearly two decades later, on the weekend.

Between those years she played in the 2009 A Grade premiership, the 2010 runner-up A Grade premiership as well as the recent 2019 A Reserve premiership.

O’Dine has coached in the Under 13s, the Under 15s, the Under 17s and the A Reserve, and has also been on the committee and served as secretary as well as treasurer.

In achieving her 350 matches for the club, she was supported by her husband Ben and boys Lenny and Judd.

The Port MacDonnell Netball Club congratulated O’Dine on her achievement and offered her best wishes for many more matches to come.

Meanwhile, Emily Lightbody also marked a milestone when she played 150 games for Kongorong Netball Club’s A Grade team.

Joining Lightbody in celebrating another milestone, but in another code, was Nangwarry Football Club’s Benjamin Deamer, who played 200 games for the club.

Deamer marked his milestone earlier this month.
