Yacht runs aground at Port MacDonnell

Asailing vessel ran aground at Port MacDonnell on Thursday night.

Police were alerted about 9.15pm to a 12 metre fibreglass yacht grounded approximately 500 metres southwest from the boat ramp on the west side of the breakwater.

Local fishermen witnessed the vessel being hit by two large waves shortly before running aground and contacted Port MacDonnell Police.

A fishing tender was used to rescue the two sailors who were not injured.

The vessel remained grounded at high tide and was in a position that could pose a risk to other operators in certain conditions.

It was then subject to a salvage operation.
