Beach trip takes unlucky turn

Areminder has been issued to keep an eye on pets at the beach following a recent mishap involving tourists to the region.

Their mixed-breed and much-loved dog Rex came in to the Kingston Veterinary Clinic after a play with a ball went sour.

Rex ended up coming off second best with some fishing hooks.

One was stuck in his leg and one in his paw pad.

Veterinarian Dr Celia Peters managed to get both hooks out safely with only two stitches needed.

“This a reminder to watch your dogs on the beach when not using rods and casting,” Dr Peters said.

Rex has made a full recovery from his ordeal and his owner is very grateful.

“Thank you very much to the Kingston Veterinary Clinic for your care of our beautiful, loyal, loving Rex,” his owner Kylie Stra said.

“We greatly appreciate the immediate emergency response for our precious family member.

“Rex is now back at camp, safe and sound and recovering.

“He is away from children, fishing rods and tennis balls.”
