Mount Gambier aged care provider Boandik has reported two positive COVID cases, sparking changes to visitor limits.
The facility posted a message on its social media this week, outlining the suite of new rules.
“To continue to keep our residents and clients safe, further changes are occurring to visitation at Boandik, as a result of the continued spread of COVID-19 in our community,” a spokesperson said.
“As we and no doubt many of you are witnessing, there are a lot of COVID-positive cases in the Limestone Coast community.
“Unfortunately, Boandik has not been able to escape the impact.
The Boandik Lake Terrace home is currently excluding visitors as there are two residents who have tested positive to COVID-19 through a rapid antigen test.
“We are awaiting the results of PCR tests for these residents and from the testing of other residents and staff. Our Lake Terrace residence will remain closed to visitors until these have been conducted and results have been received.”
The spokesperson said the results were expected later this week, in the meantime contact with families was being maintained through telephone calls, FaceTime and window visits.
“We hope to stop this outbreak and open for visitors in the near future,” the spokesperson said.
“Due to the spread of COVID-19 in the community and to protect our residents and clients, we have made the decision to change the visiting arrangements for Boandik St Mary’s and Boandik Crouch Street.
“At these residences, we will be limiting visitor numbers for each resident to two visitors per day, in the interest of ensuring our residents and clients stay safe.
“We will also be excluding unvaccinated children from visiting our homes due to the risk of spreading COVID-19 to residents.
“Visitors to St Mary’s and Crouch Street can continue to visit a resident in their room or an outdoor area. Masks must always remain in place, to protect our residents.
“We hope these new restrictions will prevent COVID-19 entering Boandik St Mary’s and Boandik Crouch Street.”
