Bowlers converge on Bay

The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club held its first open Men’s Fours last week with teams from Millicent, Mount Gambier, Mount Gambier RSL, Dartmoor, Penola and Port MacDonnell.

The day was sponsored by OG Roberts, O’Connor and Graney, Key2Sale and the Port MacDonnell Store.

Three games were played with one game of 14 ends before lunch and two games of nine ends after lunch.

Winners from Mount Gambier RSL on 110 points were skipper Dean Wilkinson, Robert Corner, Ron Ploenges and Graham Dent.

The Mount Gambier RSL team of skipper Gary Feast, Graham Ellis, Ralph Stafford and John Schroder finished second on 108 points.

A combination team from Millicent, Robe and Mount Gambier RSL of skipper Kym Stewart, Strawb Masters, Dean Burgoyne and Ian MacIntosh finished third with 78 points.

The first round of mid-week pennants resulted with Port MacDonnell Red 40 shots 7 points winning by one shot over Millicent 39 shots 1 point.

Heather Richards’ rink won 22-21 and Keith Dowdell’s rink drew 18-all.

Port MacDonnell Blue’s 39 shots 0 points was not as successful, going down to Mount Gambier Blue 52 shots 8 points,

David Beaman lost 22-26 against Ronald Cox and Terry Seiler lost to Beryl Versluis 17-26.

In the Friday Ladies Division 1 Pennant Port MacDonnell 65 shots 8 points defeated Millicent Blue 29 shots 0 points.

Heather Richards’s rink defeated Heather Carthew 40-13 and Judith Grosvenor defeated Mary Cambell 25-16.

In Division 2 Port MacDonnell 38 shots 2 points lost to Lucindale 48 shots 6 points.

Jennie Tilley’s rink defeated Margaret Fallon 27-16.

Elaine Pruis’ rink was not good enough against Cheryl Ferguson’s rink and lost 11-32.

In Saturday’s Open Pennant Port MacDonnell was no match against Robe losing 49 shots 0points to Robe 99 shots 12 points.

Heather Richards lost to Stephen Farrell 17-32, Wayne Dowdell lost to Harold Manton 12-42, and Adam Wilson lost to Peter Roachock 20-25.

In second division Port MacDonnell had more success against Robe winning 93 shots 12 points to Robe 44 shots 0 points.

Danny Gaut defeated Adrian Bermingham 29-20, Kel Butler defeated Dean Woodward 28-18, and Terry Seiler had a big win over Alastair Douglas 36-6.

In Division 3 Port MacDonnell overcame Beachport to win 89 shots 10 points to Beachport 70-2.

Don Forbes defeated Sylvie Werchon 25-23, Justin Brown had a big win over Max Blacketer 43-14, and Kev Norman lost to Nigel O’Brien 21-33.
