Caddy ‘made to move’

Caddy ‘made to move’

Built on years of renowned German engineering and styled for the needs of the modern era, the fifth-generation Volkswagen Caddy is both practical and comfortable while being packed with features inside and out to help you take on every drive.

Available in a range of different configurations from cargo carrier to people carrier, Barry Maney Volkswagen now has a compact people mover Caddy Life Maxi in stock equipped with the manufacturers TDI320 diesel engine and seven-speed DSG gearbox.

A petrol powered variant featuring Volkswagen’s TSI220 powerplant is also available and also features a seven-speed DSG gearbox and front wheel drive configuration.

While compact, there has been no corners cut on styling. Distinct Volkswagen features are instantly recognisable on the road from headlight to tail light and everywhere in between, polished off with chrome accents, a futuristic front bumper and large grill for keeping engine temperatures under control and stylish 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Indium Grey Metallic paintwork featured on the Caddy really popped under the brief spring sunlight, but Volkswagen has ensured a large range of colour options are available to suit all styles and further enhancing the Caddy customisability.

Solid colour options including Candy White, Pure Grey and Cherry Red are available as standard, while sitting alongside Indium Grey in the metallic colour department are Copper Bronze, Costa Azul, Fortana Red, Golden Green, Mojave Beige, Reflex Silver and Starlight Blue, while Deep Black Pearlescent paint is also available should you wish.

While the outside is impressive, on the inside is where the magic really happens – and despite it’s compact size for a seven seater – the space is impressive!

The overall size of the Caddy makes it small enough to zip in and out of tight parking spots, but big enough to comfortably load up with passengers and cargo and hit the road.

There is plenty of head room for even the tallest of passengers and cargo amounts, while if the need arises to carry bulkier items, the rear seats can be removed to provide further breathing room all-round.

The ‘Trialog’ trim seating is comfortable and firm with the added benefit of being certified as back friendly by Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR) e.V.3).

There are a massive range of settings designed to support the spine in addition to seat length, height, depth, tilt, backrest and head restraint adjustments, while also featuring four-way electric lumbar support.

Creature comforts including a host of 12-volt and USB-C charging ports throughout the cabin, while a wireless charging pad tucks away neatly at the front of the dash to keep your phone out of sight.

A digital cockpit sits front and centre for drivers to keep track of all engine and system vitals, while the infotainment system also doubles as a screen to control assists and climate control functionality through quick link buttons.

Middle row passengers are also treated to folding tables to cater for everything from colouring books to tablet devices to help keep occupants occupied.

The Volkswagen Caddy Life tested also featured a panoramic sunroof, which lets ample natural light into the cabin and is available as an add-on option, while heat-insulated windows help keep cabin temperatures under wraps in even the harshest of Aussie summers.

With plenty of power and optimum comfort on hand at all times, the Volkswagen Caddy is a delight to drive. This experience is made even better by a host of driver aids and assists to ensure all occupants are kept as safe as can be when taking to the road.

The Caddy’s state-of-the-art assistance system allows drivers to switch on adaptive cruise control to sense the distance between the vehicle and the car in front, automatically braking or accelerating to maintain that distance and – if need be – it can even bring you to a complete stop.

The Caddy comes with a wealth of features as standard to help keep the roads a safer place, including front assist with city emergency braking, side assist with blind spot monitoring and lane assist, ensuring you can change lanes safely or stay in it if a collision is predicted.

Hassle and stress-free parking is also a key feature of the Volkswagen Caddy. A reverse camera and park distance control come as standard on the Caddy to help manoeuvre with ease, while the state-of-the-art park assist feature can help you glide into parking spots by steering for you while you simply work the pedals.

Park distance control takes the dread out of negotiating tight and tricky car parks – and even jam-packed dealership yards – with the system able to alert and even prevent a collision when reversing at speeds of up to 10km/h.

All in all, the Volkswagen Caddy is a delight to drive and can be summed up as a big vehicle in a small package. Everything you need – and want – in a people mover is delivered in typical Volkswagen high quality without the daunting size of larger vehicles in the category.
