Cancer service support

The purchase of up to date cancer diagnostic equipment for the Mount Gambier and Naracoorte hospitals is being supported by a key Millicent charitable group.

Significant funds have been committed to the purchase of a new gamma probe by the Limestone Coast Local Health Network.

However, there is a shortfall of $70,000 which has become the fundraising target for the Millicent Cancer Support group.

Backers to date have been the Millicent Lions Club with a $10,000 donation while the Lions Club of Wattle Range Lioness has contributed $7000.

The corporate sector is also backing the cause with $1000 coming from the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill.

Millicent Cancer Support Group secretary Karla Werchon said donations were also anticipated for the appeal from other local groups and businesses.

She said the gamma probes are used to detect cancerous cells in nodes of breast cancer patients.

Earlier this year, the Millicent Cancer Support Group donated $10,000 to the 2025 Cancer Council Cancer Research Giving Day.

All monies donated on this annual appeal day are matched by corporate donors.
