CFS positions open

All leadership positions in the Wattle Range Country Fire Service Group will be officially vacated as usual at its annual general meeting at its Millicent administrative base on August 30.

It has been the largest CFS Group in South Australia for the past 26 years.

The 22 brigade captains in the Wattle Range CFS Group will elect various officers to two-year terms.

The elections are expected to be conducted by personnel from the CFS region five headquarters in Naracoorte.

Fred Stent, of Penola, has been the group officer of Wattle Range Country Fire Service Group for the past eight years.

He was promoted from his long-time role of deputy group officer in 2015 following the retirement of fellow long-serving volunteer Mike Kemp, of Millicent.

Mr Stent oversees the volunteer fire-fighters who have an average of 400 call-outs per year.

His time in the CFS well exceeds 50 years and dates back to his time as a cadet.

Mr Stent was recognised in 2013 for his community efforts by being awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal.

Prior to the establishment of the Wattle Range CFS Group in 1997, Mr Stent was group officer of the Penola CFS Group.
