Chant crowned as club champ

Liam Chant has been recently crowned as the 2023 club champion of the Millicent Golf Club and etched his name on the honour board for the first time.


He joins his father Terry Chant on this elite list.


The Men’s Club and Grade Championships were held at the Mount Burr course on November 26.


The Club and B Grade Championship were played over 36 holes and the C Grade over 27 holes.


Drizzly rain greeted the players before hit off, however, once cleared the day turned out to be fine with a slight breeze.


The spectators in attendance saw some spectacular golf.


The winners of the Club and the B and C Grade Championships were all first-time winners.


The Club Championship was contested by Chant and Matt Warren.


Chant had an early lead to be three up after 9 holes, then four up after 18.


The match finished on the 31st hole, Chant defeating Warren 6/5.


Anthony Driessen, who is the Club Vice President and Greens Management Chairperson, contested the B Grade Championship with Trevor Atkinson.


Driessen had a fantastic 1st nine to be seven up after 9.


Atkinsons game steadied, not allowing Driessen to extend his lead.


At the lunch time break, Driessen had a lead of six up.


The match was finalised on the 29th hole, Driessen winning 8/7.


2022 C Grade Champion Craig Wilkinson took to the course to defend his title against Tyler Shanks.


The match was very even, with players all square after 15 holes.


Shanks was one up after 22 holes and claimed the victory on the 25th hole 3/2.
