Choral Society in full voice

A pre-Christmas tradition of long standing continued in Millicent on Sunday afternoon when 12 members of the Millicent Choral Society presented the Festival of Lessons and Carols.

It was held at St Michael and All Angels Anglican Church with the presiding clergyman being Millicent/Penola parish priest Father Lyndon Sulzberger.

At the helm of the Millicent Choral Society was its musical director Michael Bleby OAM.

Admission was free but a collection was taken for the Millicent Churches Christmas Hamper Appeal.

There were nine bible readings and carols for the choir and congregation.

The readers were Father Lyndon, some of the choristers and members of Millicent’s other churches.

Extensive notes in the program provided the background to the carols.

Millicent’s annual Festival of Lessons and Carols has developed quite a following over the past 40 years and it has been held in various churches in Beachport and Millicent.

Many of the elements of the Millicent presentation came from the world famous Festival of Lessons and Carols which was first held on Christmas Eve in 1918 at the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England.

As in Cambridge, the Millicent Choral Society adds some additional carols to its yearly presentation.
