City festive spirit springs into gear

Entries are now open for the 2022 NF McDonnell and Sons Mount Gambier Christmas Parade, to be held on November 19.

Community groups, sporting clubs, schools, businesses and individuals are being encouraged to get behind the festive community event and submit an entry form.

Council’s Community Events Team Leader Xarnia Keding said there was no cost to participate and entries could vary from walking and marching performances to larger float displays.

“It’s always incredible to see the effort put in by the community to bring the magic of the parade to life,” she said.

“There are 10 prize categories with more than $3500 in prize money to be won.

“We are grateful for the continuous support of NF McDonnell and Sons as a major sponsor.

Award categories include: most outstanding entry, best christmas theme, best school entry, best club or community organisation entry, open category, best themed band, encouragement award, best non-city entry, best utilising recycled resources entry and best brass band.

Entrants are eligible for any award with only one prize per entry and will be judged individually on creativity, effort, visual appeal, energy and engagement and recycle focus.

Christmas parade guidelines and entry forms can be downloaded from council’s website  or a printed copy can be collected from the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre, Mount Gambier Library, Civic Centre or the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre.

Entries close on October 31 at 5pm.
