Wine show entries pour in

The entries are in and next month’s Limestone Coast Wine Show has attracted some of the strongest numbers in the event’s 21-year history, with more than 475 wines nominated by 69 exhibitors.

Wine show committee spokesperson Lauren Hansen said the new Cabernet trophies were set to be hotly contested, with the class now split into two categories according to vintage.

“The exceptional aging quality of Limestone Coast reds is also highlighted by strong entries in the Museum class for wines greater than seven years old, while enthusiasm for the Chardonnay and Shiraz classes reflects an impressive run of recent vintages,” she said.

Wine show judging will take place at Penola’s Rymill Hall from October 17, with this year’s panel travelling from Tasmania, Western Australia, Victoria, New Zealand and across South Australia to participate.

“This is such a wonderful opportunity for wine producers to compare their product against industry benchmarks courtesy of such a broad range of experienced palates and we’re really looking forward to seeing our judges’ decisions,” Ms Hansen said.

“Their favourite wines will be revealed on October 20 during a trophy dinner at the Robe Mechanics Institute hosted by the Mount Benson and Robe wine regions. Sails at Robe head chef Adam Brookes will prepare the four-course feast, which will also showcase previous trophy winners and strong performers, with a particular focus on wines from the coast.”

Tickets for the dinner and transport to the event are still available, with bus timetables due out early next month.

“We’re thrilled to be able to gather again and with mingling now back on the table thanks to relaxed COVID restrictions – there will be plenty to celebrate, so get on board,” Ms Hansen said.
