Senior Men
Millicent United v Blue Lake
Milicent United will host Blue Lake on Sunday as Millicent continues to search for its first win of the Barry Maney Premier League season.
Both sides are coming off tough losses last week and will be on the rebound on Sunday.
Blue Lake will certainly be the favourites going into this one as they have only suffered one loss so far this season.
Millicent will have a tough task against the Rangers’ pace so they cannot really afford to make any mistakes in the match.
Millicent have a few players that can find the back of the net including Mema Mahungu and Christian Muteba, and the Blue Lake will be best served keeping on eye on the dynamic duo.
Despite how Millicent played last week I do not think they will be able to keep up with Blue Lake in this one with the Rangers keen to get back on the winners list.
Portland Panthers v Apollo
Apollo will head to Portland on Sunday to take on the Panthers as both sides look to build off their last wins.
Both teams head into this game coming off wins over Millicent with Apollo fresher after having the bye last round.
Apollo came away with a comfortable win after a shaky start while the Panthers just got by Millicent after a late goal so it will be interesting to see how these sides match up
Apollo have not had the best start to the season as they began the year 0-3 while the Panthers broke a two game losing streak last round.
Head to head Portland have had a better defence so far this season with eight goals separating them and Apollo.
Despite the Millicent game Apollo have struggled to score many goals so they could well have a tough day on Sunday.
I think Portland will take out the win in this one given the game is being played at home.
Naracoorte United v International
Naracoorte United will host International on Sunday as Naracoorte look to get back on the winners list while Inter lock in to continue their winning streak.
Inter are coming off a solid win on Anzac Day while Naracoorte failed against Centrals.
The black and blue have looked like a very good side since their round one loss and will definitely be a tough challenge for Naracoorte.
If they are to get the win, Naracoorte will need to stop Inter’s Matt and Sam Bueti who have both been in fine form lately.
Naracoorte’s attack has not been the best this season as they have scored the fewest goals with five.
This will be an area Naracoorte will need to improve in if they want to take it up to Inter.
I think Inter will be too good for Naracoorte in this encounter and will come away with the three points.
Senior Women
Millicent United v Blue Lake
Millicent United will look for their first win this weekend when they host Blue Lake on Sunday.
It has not been smooth sailing for Millicent to start the year as they are still yet to pick up a point.
Blue Lake are coming off a solid win last week over Inter while Millicent fell short to Portland in a 2-0 defeat.
Last week’s win was Blue Lake’s first after drawing its opening two games.
This week will not be easy for Millicent as Blue Lake have one of the best defences in the competition, having only allowed two goals thus far.
This is not a good match up for Millicent as they seemingly lack solid attack, having been unable to score as yet.
I think Blue Lake will come away with the win in this match given how well they played last week.
Portland Panthers v Apollo
Apollo will take on Portland on Sunday with the Mount Gambier side heading across the border to face the Panthers.
Both sides have had solid starts to the season with neither registering a loss thus far.
Portland have done well to come away with points in their match ups as they have had three draws.
Both of these sides match up well together with Apollo having a good defence and Portland fielding a good attack.
I expect Imogen Pratt to have a big game as she has been a reliable scorer for the Panthers this season.
Overall this is a fairly evenly matched game and the result could go either way.
Naracoorte United v International
Top of the table Naracoorte United will host Inter on Sunday as Inter look to get their first win of the season.
Naracoorte have started the season well with two wins and a draw.
Inter on the other hand have struggled and after their loss to Blue Lake on Anzac Day this will be another tough match up.
Atop the ladder Naracoorte will be in for another three point result to retain their spot.
Naracoorte’s Sophie Hole will be a tough player for Inter to stop in this game, coming off a hattrick performance and having been outstanding throughout the season.
Along with that Naracoorte are the highest scoring team in the competition so this game will be difficult for Inter, with the black and blue seemingly lacking in defence.
Overall I think Naracoorte will continue their hot start to the season and secure the three points on Sunday.
