Club gets bowls rolling

The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club held its season opener on Sunday in perfect spring weather.

President Terry Seiler welcomed members and friends and Grant District Mayor Kylie Boston to officially open the 2023/24 season.

Ladies Singles Champion Heather Richards rolled the jack and Men’s Singles Champion Adam Wilson rolled the first bowl.

The Champion of Champion shields of Ladies Singles Heather Richards, Fours Tim Wrightson, Wayne Dowdell, Keith Dowdell, Des Horrigan and Triples Adam Wilson, Chris Richards and John Broadbent were presented to the club from last year and all three won the Lower South East Region 1 Champion of Champions and the Ladies won the Division 1 pennant.

Mayor Boston presented Lance Fisher with his 90th certificate and Nallia Lucas and Elaine Pruis were presented with their 70 veteran badges.

After the opening 40 members played one game of 15 ends followed by afternoon tea.

The winners were Terry Seiler, Nick Negline, Val Praetz and John Naismith on 31 points.

The club’s board of management for 2023/24 comprises president Terry Seiler, vice presidents Joe Pruis (men) and Sharon Perryman (women), secretary Heather Richards, treasurer Nallia Lucas and committee members Jennie Tilley, Lyn Vanderley, Nick Negline and Graham Hutchesson.

Jennie and Ben Tilley will oversee tournaments, while Chris Richards will be the director of greens, with selectors Adam Wilson, Eddie Smith and Danny Gaut.

Port MacDonnell had a very successful year for a small club and hopes to continue its good work again this season.
