Coastal jet ski restrictions review

Issues relating to jet ski usage at Robe have been canvassed at a stakeholder meeting brokered by the Robe District Council.

Robe Mayor Alison Nunan said they recently held a meeting with some local jet ski owners and SA Police to review the efficacy of last year’s restrictions.

“There is certainly no easy answer to ensure the safety of swimmers and jet skiers in the same body of water,” Mayor Nunan said.

“They have suggested maybe reducing the restrictions down to the very busy period when the beach is overcrowded, maybe from Christmas Day through to the end of January which will allow the compliance officers to concentrate their effort.

“Outside of this time, the beach users are able to space themselves along the beach and generally stay out of each other’s way so maybe removing the restrictions outside of those times is a possibility.”

She said a paper would be prepared for the next monthly council meeting for discussion.
