Colourful acts to fill Fringe

The announcements keep coming for this year’s Fringe Mount Gambier, with the opening night spectacular set to fill the city’s showgrounds with plenty of colour and movement.

The Fringe Mount Gambier opening night event at the showgrounds has been curated to give those attending a taste of everything expected from a Fringe festival.

Fringeland will kick off from 4.30pm on Friday, March 25 with a night filled with a variety of activities and delights.

On the main stage you can expect to see live music including local acts and Peter Combe with his ensemble.

Plus, fresh from festival tour bookings that included Falls Festival and Splendour in the Grass, Australian queer noise-pop duo Cry Club will entertain the crowd.

Cry Club are as gentle in spirit as they are ferocious on stage, they have a flair for creating relatable, empowering and danceable anthems coupled with head-turning moments of intrigue and flawlessly tight guitars.

Cry Club cut through when their single, ‘DFTM’ earned them a full add on triple j and positive press at home and internationally.

On their debut full-length album, God I’m Such a Mess, they showcased their confidence, vision and fiercely idiosyncratic personality which was featured at Triple J and KEXP.

Citing a wide array of influences from LCD Soundsystem and The Cure to Eilish Gilligan, Cry Club cut their teeth in the Wollongong music scene before moving to Melbourne.

Having been booked to play 2018’s BIGSOUND before having released a single, Cry Club had heads talking. Their first single, ‘Walk Away’ garnered much support from the press at home.

While it was their second single, “DFTM” which helped them take out ‘most played artist’ on Triple J Unearthed in 2019 and saw them hit the road supporting Alex Lahey, Alice Ivy, WAAX and Bec Sandridge.

Take a break from the main stage to wander past the movement stage featuring dance and acrobatic performances, grab a drink at the bars, have some dinner, pick up some bargains at the twilight markets and then catch the free buses providing loops to other Fringe destinations.

There’s no better way to kick-off the 2022 Fringe Mount Gambier season.
