Come on Barbie, Oatmill party

Mount Gambier’s Oatmill Cinema was awash with pink on Thursday night for the much anticipated premiere of the Barbie movie.

The Mount Gambier Branch of SA Cancer Council fundraiser invited moviegoers to dress up with a Barbie theme, with the cinema complex filled with a sea of pink for the event.

Joining in on the Barbie theme, the Oatmill also sold bubblegum Barbie top limited edition icecreams.

The Mount Gambier Branch of SA Cancer Council spokeswomen Brooke Wilson and Toni Hamilton said the night was a success.

“The Mount Gambier Branch of SA Cancer Council has been working really hard over the last 12 months to raise money to cover the cost of a room at Cancer Council’s new Greenhill Lodge facility in Adelaide,” Mount Gambier Branch of SA Cancer Council spokeswomen Brooke Wilson and Toni Hamilton said.

“We know that many local families access this facility when loved ones are having treatment.

“At Thursday’s movie night fundraiser for the Barbie movie premiere we raised over $2265.

“The event was a sell out and the cinema was filled with pink and many Barbie inspired outfits.

“The money raised on the night, as well as donations from businesses and those who have attended and supported our other events over the past year, has meant we have now raised enough money to fund this room.”

Ms Wilson and Ms Hamilton said the branch will be meeting tomorrow at 5.30pm for its AGM at the Blue Lake Golf Links to determine its next fundraising goal.

“We are extremely grateful for the support from our community, we know that everyone has a story and we hope one day for a cancer free future,” they said.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting and join the committee.
