The Donovans Community Centre was officially opened last week, after several bodies combined to generate funding for the facility.

Grant District Council, the former Coalition Federal Government and the community itself funded the centre.

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin attended the opening, cutting a ribbon with Donovans Recreational Advisory Committee President Steve Gillett and Grant District Mayor Kylie Boston to mark the opening.

The $160,000 project was supported with $100,000 in funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, a former Coalition Government initiative.

Grant District Council contributed $33,000 to the project with the remaining $30,000 coming from the Donovans Community via donations and in-kind support.

Mr Pasin said the LRCI program was unique in that it responds to expressed local needs rather than being invested via top down determined priorities and strategies.

“I’m incredibly proud of the support provided to local government through the LRCI Program because it’s projects like this that ensure our productive and vibrant region remains strong, resilient and prosperous in the long term,” Mr Pasin said.

The $3.25b Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program supports Local Government around Australia to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects, creating jobs and long-lasting benefits for communities.

The Donovans community is benefitting from the program which is also funding play equipment at Donovans Reserve and the toilet block to include accessible amenities and a female shower.

“It’s all part of ensuring that local communities remain a great place to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Pasin said.
