Mount Gambier City Council is consulting with the community to explore and develop a community vision to guide Council’s strategic planning process for the next 10 years – Mount Gambier – 2035.
Council chief executive Sarah Philpott said phase one of the process was under way and includes engaging with the community to hear about what residents collectively value, what Mount Gambier wants to be known for, and what can be done together as we approach 2035.
“We have distributed postcards encouraging contribution from the community and have been present at local markets and events to discuss people’s suggestions and ideas in person,” she said.
“Council will analyse the community feedback provided in early 2024 and facilitate a series of targeted conversations and interviews to explore the key themes.”
Ms Philpott said in March/April 2024 council will develop the draft community vision and Mount Gambier – 2035 Strategic Plan and fine tune the document with a cross section of the community.
“Council intends to establish a community panel to collaborate with council, analyse feedback and explore key themes suggested by the community,” she said.
“The panel will be an opportunity for 40 to 50 community members to investigate the key themes relating to the future of Mount Gambier.
“Participants will be given the time and support they need to consider and discuss information and ideas, weigh up issues and options and agree on recommendations to go back to council.”
Interested community members can register their interest in being part of the community panel at www.haveyoursaymountgambier.com.au/mountgambier2035
Registrations will be open until the end of January/early February 2024.
The final draft strategic plan will be presented to the community for feedback in May 2024.
