Long-serving coastal GP Dr David Senior has been named as the Australia Day Citizen of the Year by the Robe District Council.

It comes on the eve of his 30th anniversary of taking over the seaside practice from his father in March 1993.

His earlier career had been spent as a medical officer in the Royal Australian Air Force.

Dr Senior is the proprietor of the Limestone Coast Health Unit Trust which operates medical clinics at Robe, Kingston, Padthaway, Lucindale and formerly Beachport.

He served multiple terms on the Robe District Council and is a former Robe Deputy Mayor.

Dr Senior was recognised in 2016 for his lifetime service to rural medicine receiving the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and Rural Doctors Association of Australia Peter Graham Award.

The Robe District Council decided on its annual Australia Day awards during a closed session of its December monthly meeting.

The Young Citizen of the Year is Madeline Writh with the Community Event of the Year going to ‘Woman Who…’ by Sonia Legoe.

The Mayoral Award went to Rodney McMartin.

All members of the public are invited to join in the 2023 Australia Day Celebrations on January 26 on the Robe Institute Lawns.

Breakfast is available for purchase from the Robe Lions Club which will be served from 8am.

The official ceremony will commence an hour later.
