Confidence high in Eagles nest

The Penola Football Club is looking forward to the 2024 KNT season, with new senior coach Jayden Eldridge at the helm.

Club president Matt Tilby said that Eldrige had guided the senior group through a strong preseason.

Dylan Walker will again take on the Reserves coaching after a successful year last year.

“The KNTFL competition will again be very strong again this year, with several teams picking up some top end talent, but I believe the work we have done in the off season, and some new recruits, along with our emerging juniors, we will be very competitive,” Tilby said.

“The junior numbers are fantastic his year, and it will be big year for them and it be a pleasure to see them all work hard and improve as the season rolls on.”

The under 14 team will be coached again by Tom Pearce, with Cameron Merrett taking charge of the under 17 team.

Tilby said the club was fortunate to have two very committed and passionate junior coaches.

“We are looking forward to seeing the whole community get behind the club in 2024,” he said.

A grade coach Eldridge said he was pretty happy with how his players are lining up for this season.

In his first year as senior coach of the Eagles, Eldridge said the club has recruited well with Harry Evans and Jack Ryan crossing the border from Edenhope, Beau Schimick from the Barossa Valley, Reece Timms from Port MacDonnell along with returning players Luke Walker and Justin Mansell will grace the field this year.

“We have got a great lot of young local talent coming through and they will be given every opportunity to play senior footy when they deserve it,” he said.

Eldridge also said the club has had a great pre season and the boys were “set and ready to go”.

“We have had a pretty exciting build up, and although coming up against Mundulla first up I know every player will give it their best shot,” he said.

Brad Bryant will solely captain the team this year, with Jordy Galpin as vice captain, assisted by Jacob Robbie and Gus Eckermann as deputy vice captains.

Teams will be announced after training on Thursday in the club where meals will be available.

Overall the Eagles are looking forward to a very exciting 2024 season.
