Crows secure local sister act

Two Millicent footballers will call the Adelaide Crows home this AFLW season in a real life sister act.

Millicent’s Sarah Allan will this year play an important leadership role Adelaide Crows, being appointed vice captain, while sister Jessica has returned to the club where her career started.

Sarah joined the Crows after being a 16th round selection in the 2016 AFLW Draft.

She consistently contributed during Adelaide’s inaugural premiership in 2017 and enjoyed a breakout year in 2018, finishing runner up club champion and earned the best defensive player award.

Sarah became a two-time premiership player in 2019 and was the rock of Adelaide’s defence.

After two All Australian nominations, she earned her first selection in the team in 2020. The significance of the appointment has not been lost on Sarah.

“It’s always an honour to be voted into the leadership group at the club,” she said.

“I enjoy helping others get the best out of themselves while also working on my own game.

“I’m still relatively young when it comes to our AFLW team but I’m going into my eighth season now so I feel like I have a lot of experience I can share with the rest of our group.

“Pre-season has been tough but at the same time very enjoyable, we had a great camp in the Barossa Valley last weekend and are looking forward to ramping up our match simulation training and practice games in coming weeks.”

Sister Jessica has returned to the Crows after initially starting her career in Adelaide during the 2018 season, before shifting to Canberra to pursue a career in the military and playing for Greater Western Sydney.

According to the Adelaide Football Club, Jessica’s return to the Crows complements a shift home to South Australia, as she embarks on the next phase of her career as a Medical Corps GSO at the RAAF base at Edinburgh.

Jessica told AFC Media she was keen to be back where it all started.

“I am absolutely stoked (with the move), just to be able to play footy in South Australia and with Sarah again it is a big thrill,” she said.

“I finished up with my study in Canberra last year and it just happened that everything fell into place with a posting in Adelaide, which gave me this opportunity to come back to the Crows.

“Sarah and the club have had a lot of success over the years that I have been away, so to be able to be part of that again it is such a privilege and I cannot wait to get started.”
