Cup interest grows

Anew promotion will generate more interest in the running of the Millicent Cup this autumn.

The 2023 Millicent Cup has been set down for May 28 at the Allan Scott Racecourse at Glenburnie.

A pre-cup Calcutta has been staged for many years but interest has been waning.

As a result, the Millicent Racing Club has decided to revive the Calcutta with an upmarket social event at the Millicent RSL Hall on May 26.

Numbers will be capped at 100 for the ticketed and licensed event and tables of up to 12 can be pre-booked with club officials.

As well as the Calcutta, there will be a phantom call of the Millicent Cup along with a quiz and platters of food.

The Millicent Racing Club is considered fortunate to have 16 office-holders as well as supporters who maintain its local racecourse and assist with stock agistment.

Local businessman John Payne was re-elected unopposed late last year for a third term as the president of the Millicent Racing Club.

First vice president Brenton McMillan and second vice president Jeremy Kenny are both past presidents of the club.

Ron Wood continues as the treasurer and public officer while the new secretary is Naomi Winter.

Numerous trainers use the Millicent racecourse and their representative is Ray Gilcrist.

The general committee members are Karen Olsson, Vince Bradley, Rod Horn, Pluto King, Peter Armfield , Danny Smith, Rick Grimes, Debbie Bowman, Fiona Telfer and Scott McIntyre.
