Ahandful of Mount Gambier’s Bell Studio of Highland Dance performers brought home plenty of medals at the Moreton Bay Championships, Scottish National Premiership and Competition in Queensland – including the top honour.
Lucy Edwards was awarded the ultimate prize by winning the Moreton Bay Championship 16-18 years against 20 dancers representing every state across Australia.
She also won the Premier Title and placed second in the Scottish National Dance Premiership.
In the championship dancers perform four dances in front of three judges, all of which Lucy placed within the top two of with three gold and a silver.
Lucy said it was “pretty amazing” to win the Moreton Bay Championship 16-18 years because it was her inaugural championship in that age group.
“After COVID I think that I had to sort of build up my dancing again, and I felt a lot stronger in this championship than usual,” she said.
Meanwhile, Evie Edwards won the Premier Title 13 years and placed fourth in the Scottish National Dance Premiership.
Isabelle Bidese won a 6th place in the Restricted Premier Title 15-16 years, and a 6th Place in the Scottish National Dance Premiership 15 years.
In the Pre-Premier sections, Alan Phillips placed 4th overall in the Intermediate Title 11 years and over, and received two individual 4th placings in the aggregate.
Amalia Srpcic who turned seven on the first day of competition gained valuable experience from competing in her first beginners’ competition.
Olive Norman won the Novice Any age trophy dance and placed runner up in the Title at the Forrest Hills Competition in Melbourne which took place the same weekend.
Studio principal Katie Edwards was thrilled with her students’ performances and results at both competitions.
