Insurance and compliance issues have led to the cancellation of another popular Millicent Show drawcard.
Motocross riding ceased a few years ago and now Saturday afternoon’s Demo Derby will not proceed.
It was with great regret on Friday the Millicent Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Society announced the cancellation of this year’s much-anticipated Demolition Derby, due to unforeseen last-minute insurance compliance issues.
“Despite extensive efforts to address these challenges, the Millicent Show Society is unable to secure the necessary compliance in time, making it impossible to proceed with the event as planned,” first-year president Brett Keatley said.
“We know the Demolition Derby is a highlight for many in our community, and we share in everyone’s disappointment.
“However, the safety of everyone is foremost and will not be compromised.
“We explored every possible option to resolve the issues, but ultimately, the compliance requirements could not be met in time for this year’s show.
“The Millicent Show Society acknowledges the hard work and dedication of Jim Garner and family, the volunteers, drivers and supporters who have put so much effort into organising this event, and thanks the community for their ongoing understanding and support.”
Saturday was set to be the 25th running of a Millicent Demo Derby by Mr Garner.
He is also a past Millicent Show Society president and was awarded life membership in 2017.
