Demons ground Concordes’ flight

Concordes White v Demons
After a slow start to the season Concordes White has hit good form recently, but it was stopped in its tracks by ladder leaders Demons in the early match this weekend.

The game started off tightly with three batters up and three outs for both teams in the first innings.

The second innings remained a tussle with Concordes holding on to no runs and Demons managing to score its first.

It was on for young and old in the field, with Demons Jo Hart not missing a fly catch at left field and Demons youngest player Sofie Morale managing two outs in a row with a field and throw to first and a fly catch at second.

Kate Altschwager led Concordes White managing two safe hits for the game, but it was a pitcher’s duel on the day, with eight batters over both teams being struck out in the batting box.

In a high-pressure, finals-like match, the strongest on the field took the honours, with Demons taking home the win with a 5-2 final score.

It solidifies top spot with only one minor round to go before finals, with this performance sounding a warning shot to all other contenders leading into the pointy end of the season.

Concordes United V Wanderers
It was 2v4 in the second match, with Wanderers searching for a win to remain safely in finals contention.

United, however still had a minor premiership in mind, only one point behind Demons coming into this round.

With Demons winning earlier in the day, United knew it needed the win to give any chance of overtaking the opposition in the final round.

Concordes started strongly, as the side often does, jumping out of the blocks with a three run first innings to lead 3-1 after the first.

The runs dried up for both sides after that, with Rej Smith pitching well and Dana Jones matching her.

Codie Jackway provided a highlight getting a double play at third for United.

Dana Jones was dominant on the mound with six strike outs and only allowed two hits to Rej Smith and Tracey Anderson.

She also contributed with the bat, hitting a three-bagger and scoring twice for her side.

Julie Beck and Montanna Millard had three safe hits each in the middle of the Concordes line up.

Concordes outscored Wanderers 4-2 in the later innings to run out 7-3 victors in a high-quality match.
