Demons scare premiers

Port MacDonnell 36 lt Glencoe 41
Reigning premiers Glencoe travelled to the seaside to take on a new look Port MacDonnell outfit.

Chantelle Cocks dominated the shooting for Glencoe, scoring all of the Murphies’ 14 goals for the quarter.

Demons’ Kate Faint and Glencoe’s Donna Jaeschke had a tight tussle running the centre position, with Glencoe up by four at quarter time.

Port Mac switched Alana Berkefeld to GK to curb Cocks, moving Alysha Coon to GD.

Coon provided good drive down the court, and while Berkefeld got her hands to many balls, Cocks still had another great quarter shooting 10.

Glencoe won the quarter by just one to take a five goal lead into half time.

The third quarter was again tight but a few errors crept into both teams with some wayward passing and missed goals.

Experienced Demon Michelle Moore at WA had a great contest with Glencoe’s Chloe Pfitzner.

Alice Tentye provided great drive at WA for the Murphies, with the speedy Liza Mutch hot on her tail.

The final quarter saw the Demons switch Faint and Mutch, and Megan Hein and Kori Collins.

This seemed to have a positive effect, but Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen kept working hard in defence for the Murphies.

Port Mac stepped up and won the final quarter by one, making the impressive, relatively unchanged reigning premiers earn the five goal win.

Kalangadoo 68 d Kongorong 26
Kalangadoo started the match against the young Kongorong side with intent, driven by the high work rate of goal attack Abbey Duncan.

Kongorong’s Riley Buckingham and Emily Lightbody adjusted to the quick pace of Kalangadoo’s goal circle and worked relentlessly to curb the influence of Duncan.

Kalangadoo went into the first quarter break with a lead 17-5.

Both teams remained unchanged during the second quarter.

Kongorong’s centre Ebony Lawson worked hard to find space and feed goalies Tilah Buckingham and Sarah Gardin.

The Pies’ defence stepped up the pressure, causing intercepts and touches in the centre third.

Goal shooter Ebony McDiarmid positioned herself as a focal point in attack and contributed to Kalangadoo going into the main break with a 25-goal lead.

The third quarter saw both teams maintain a high work rate, with Riley Buckingham making an impact defensively.

Kalangadoo was able to convincingly run the game out 68-26.

Nangwarry 39 lt Mount Burr 63
Both teams came out hard, however Mount Burr settled a little earlier than Nangwarry, getting a couple of goals ahead through some good attack work from Laura Schultz.

Nangwarry pushed back and the defence worked overtime with Kayla Gray getting hands to the ball and transitioning well down the court with Demi Hoffmeister scoring well for the Saints, with scores level at quarter time.

In the second quarter the Mozzies came out firing, getting a jump on Nangwarry.

Mount Burr’s defence tightened up and made Nangwarry work for every goal.

Megan Thiele picked up the pace, getting hands to many balls for the Burr, with Hayley Burner and Schultz having a good tussle.

Ebony Clarke combined well with Lauren Wheeler, making Gray and Chrystal Lock work for touches.

The half time score saw Nangwarry trailing by 12.

Nangwarry put Lock to WD and brought on Jemma Parsons to GD.

Mount Burr brought Simone Westerman on to WD and Caitlyn Payne swapped to WA.

Nangwarry lifted as Kate Bizko positioned well along with good feeding by Cassie Dinnison and Burner.

Wheeler moved and rebounded well for the Burr and Clarke continued her accuracy.

Thiele made Hoffmeister work for every goal, with the score at three quarter time Nangwarry 30 to Mount Burr 45.

Mount Burr took off Payne and brought Ella Easterby back on to WA.

Schultz dominated with great drive and passing, Biszko worked hard in goals with Hoffmeister, but Thiele read the ball well taking many intercepts.

Tantanoola 40 lt Robe 46
In the match of the round Robe scored the first two goals of the game with strong positioning between Demi Carter and Tori Gluyas.

Tantanoola was unsettled with feeding to goalies Keryl Ousey and Emma Gould, who used their height to advantage and snapped up any missed shots.

Tantanoola made numerous changes at the break with Gould moving to GD, Jami Walker to GA, Casey Walker to WA and Kate Bromley to GD.

Robe continued to play controlled netball and scored the first two goals of the quarter to extend the lead to three.

The Robe goalies struggled to adjust to the height of Gould and Tayla Rowe.

Emily Hunter worked hard in centre for Robe, giving her side drive through the mid court.

Robe’s defensive end of Annie Regnier, Emma Grant and Georgia Perkins lifted, however Tantanoola played a solid quarter to keep within one.

Robe replaced Lucy Perkins in the WA position with Halle Carter and Tantanoola swapped Ousey and J Walker.

Once again Robe shot the first two goals of the quarter, despite great defensive pressure by Gould.

Robe’s defensive pressure through the mid court made things tough for Tantanoola, with the Roosters pushing out to five goal lead on numerous occasions only for Tantanoola to peg it back.

However, Robe ultimately won the battle with D Carter and Gluyas missing only one for the quarter finishing with a four goal lead at three quarter time.

Tantanoola swapped Bromley and Rowe at the start of the last, with an injury to Gould mid-way through the quarter forcing numerous changes.

Despite J Walker shooting at a 100%, Robe was too strong across the court and ran away with a six goal win, 46-40.
